TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa Athletic continue their postseason run as they host Fort Worth Vaqueros in the South Region semifinals on Tuesday (July 16) at 5:30 p.m. at Veterans Park.

 

Tulsa Athletic won the Heartland Conference championship on Saturday with a 2-0 victory over Demize NPSL at Veterans Park. Billy Nzojyibwami scored the game-winner early in the match in the sixth minute, and Joe Garcia added a goal on a late penalty kick for the 2-0 win. The green and yellow started the playoffs with a 6-2 victory over Ozark FC in the Heartland Conference semifinals. Garcia and Santiago Riveros tallied two goals each in the dominating win.

 

During the regular season, Tulsa went unbeaten with a 7-0-3 mark and won the Heartland Conference regular season title by 11 points. With the postseason victories, the green and yellow are currently on a 12-match unbeaten streak this season with nine wins and three draws.

 

Garcia leads Tulsa Athletic in scoring this season with seven goals, including three during the postseason run. Adam Habib adds five goals this season. Goalkeeper Bryson Reed has totaled four shutouts this season and allows less than one goal per game for the top defense in the Heartland Conference.

 

Fort Worth defeated Midland-Odessa Sockers, 2-1, on Saturday to capture the Lone Star Conference championship. During the regular season, Fort Worth went 7-2-3 and placed third in the conference standings. Jamie Lovegrove paces the squad with six goals this season, and Anthony Powell has five goals.

 

Tulsa and Fort Worth played three seasons together in the South Central Conference from 2014-16. In their last meeting in 2016, Tulsa Athletic defeated Fort Worth Vaqueros, 6-0, on July 2, 2016 in Tulsa. Tulsa Athletic are 2-0 all-time at home against Fort Worth.

 

This is the sixth postseason appearance for Tulsa Athletic as they are 7-4-1 all-time in the NPSL playoffs.

 

The winner of Tuesday’s contest will advance to the South Region championship on Saturday and play the winner of the other region semifinal match between Miami FC and Chattanooga FC.
