TULSA – Tulsa Athletic are fielding a secret side in the UPSL’s Central Conference-North Division First Division over the winter. The team dubbed “Tulsa Athletic Project 2020” will be utilizing all non-college players in an effort to continually develop younger players and keep older players fit and sharp.
2019 captain Jamie Gilbert was selected as player/coach for Project 2020.
“I’m delighted to take part in a program that gets our guys together again. We have a lot of work to do in preparation for the 2021 US Open Cup and the 2021 NPSL campaign and the UPSL is a fantastic level for our guys. We couldn’t be happier to be playing together again.”
Gilbert has gotten Project 2020 off to a perfect 4-0-0 start thus far and the squad is yet to concede a goal from the run of play, outsourcing opponents 10-1. Several fan favorites such as Bryson Reed, Santiago Riveros, Joe Garcia, Abou Diallo and Alex Harris are in the fold and have contributed to Project 2020’s hot start.

“With the pandemic still a major concern, we don’t want to put any of our fans or supporters in harm’s way. We ask that you make some popcorn, cozy up at home, put us on the big screen and celebrate in the safest way possible with us. We’ve announced our attendance as 403,090 in the past and we’ll now be announcing it as zero until a later date. Keeping Tulsans safe is paramount,” said owner Dr. Thomas Kern.
