
TULSA – Luis Flores finished with a brace with two goals as Tulsa Athletic won, 2-0, over OKC 1889 FC on Wednesday (June 11) at Athletic Community Field at Hicks Park.
With the victory, Tulsa Athletic extended their winning streak to three straight games, including two wins over OKC 1889 FC. The green and yellow took over second place in the conference with a 3-0-2 record with nine points midway through the season. OKC sits in third place with six points and a 2-0-3 record.
Tulsa Athletic earned a penalty late in the first half with a foul by OKC 1889 FC at the edge of the box. Flores stepped up to the spot and hit a strike to the right side of the goal for a 1-0 advantage in the 45th minute of action.
The green and yellow held a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Flores put the game away with his second goal in the 84th minute. He took a pass from Rafa Zadlivar at the top of the box and fired a shot to the left side of the goal to up the edge to 2-0 late in the contest.
Bryson Reed earned his first shutout win of the season. In his 90 minutes in goal, Reed made multiple huge stops to keep the visiting side scoreless. The back line of Aiden Ussery, Joe Ruiz, Francisco Lopez and Ebenezer Boti helped limited the chances from OKC 1889 FC.
This Saturday it’s a matchup between the two top teams in the Mid-America Conference. FC Wichita with 10 points and a 3-1-0 record travel to Tulsa Athletic for a 7:30 p.m. match at Athletic Community Field at Hicks Park.
