TULSA, Okla. – Munashe Rarange joins Tulsa Athletic for the 2019 season, coming back to the club after playing the 2017 season for the green and yellow. The midfielder became the 10th signing for Tulsa Athletic for the 2019 campaign.
“Making sure we have the best local talent on our club is important to us,” Daniel DeVore, GM of Tulsa Athletic, said. “That is why we are extremely excited to have Munashe back for the 2019 season. One of our goals in the offseason was to improve our offense for the 2019 season and bringing Munashe back does just that. Munashe is a quick, creative player who gives opposing defensive players fits on the pitch.”
In his prior season with Tulsa Athletic in 2017, Rarange appeared in eight contests with four starts. He scored one goal during the season to put Tulsa Athletic up 1-0 over FC Wichita. He played 482 minutes during the 2017 campaign.
Rarange, a native of Harare, Zimbabwa, completed his collegiate career at the University of Tulsa in the fall. In his four-year career, Rarange started in 42 contests and totaled 58 appearances in the midfield. As a senior, he appeared in 12 matches with six starts, playing 550 minutes. In his final collegiate contest, Rarange scored his only goal of the season in a 2-1 victory over UConn. For the season, the midfielder tallied 14 shots with seven shots on goal. He was named TU’s “Man of the Match” against SMU.
Rarange played for the Oklahoma Energy U23 team during the summer of 2018. He played in five matches during the 2018 PDL season with the Energy.
During his junior season at TU, Rarange started in 13 contests while making 15 appearances. He tallied a brace with two goals at Santa Clara, including the game-winning mark. For the outstanding performance, Rarange was named TU’s “Man of the Match” at Santa Clara. He added an assist during the season at Memphis. For the year, Rarange attempted 16 shots with seven shots on goal.
Rarange started in 12 matches as a sophomore and totaled 16 appearances. He registered a goal against Oral Roberts, and the midfielder added an assist against Creighton. Rarange finished with 17 shots during the season.
Rarange started his collegiate career with 11 starts as a freshman for the Golden Hurricane. He played in 15 contests and picked up an assist against Memphis. For the season, Rarange totaled 11 shots. He was named TU’s “Man of the Match” against Saint Louis and SMU.
Before his time at TU, Rarange played club soccer for the Oklahoma FC 97. He was named to the Top Drawer Soccer All-America, all-region and all-state teams as a senior. Rarange helped his team capture the Oklahoma State Championship, Phoenix President’s Day Championship and Jefferson Cup as the team finished as the Region 3 semifinalist.
The 2019 season for Tulsa Athletic starts on May 5 when they play host to Little Rock Rangers at 2 p.m. at Veterans Park.
