Tulsa Athletic Win 3-0 in Season Finale, Secure Home Playoff Game Wednesday

TULSA – Tulsa Athletic scored three first-half goals to pull away for a 3-0 victory over Reign FK on Saturday (July 10) at Veterans Park as the green and yellow secured a home playoff game set for Wednesday (July 14) in Tulsa.

With the win, Tulsa Athletic earned the No. 2 seed in the Heartland Conference with a 6-1-3 record and 21 points. Demize NPSL finished with 24 points to win the conference with a 7-0-3 record. Tulsa Athletic will play host to No. 3 seed OKC 1889 FC on Wednesday (July 14) at 7 p.m. at Titan Sports and Performance Center.

Tulsa Athletic went up 2-0 quickly about 20 minutes into the contest with two goals in three minutes. Romulo Bosqueiro tallied the first goal in the 20th minute to give the green and yellow the 1-0 advantage. Vinicius Oliveira made the goal happen with a perfectly placed pass to Joe Ruiz. Ruiz’s shot was saved, but Bosqueira knocked the rebound in for the 1-0 score. Ruiz earned the assist on the goal.

Juan Arias added the second goal on a free kick from just outside the top of the box to the near right post in the 23rd minute for a 2-0 margin.

Aboubakr Diallo set up the third goal as he got by the Reign defense and played the ball into Jonathan Harris who scored his first goal for the green and yellow, making it 3-0 in the 36th minute.

After a scoreless second half with Tulsa Athletic giving lots of minutes to reserves, the green and yellow secured the 3-0 victory.

Bryson Reed started in goal with Brady Moody coming in during the second half. The duo combined for the shutout victory, the pair’s second combined shutout victory of the season.

Tulsa Athletic welcomes OKC 1889 FC on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Titan Sports and Performance Center. In the other Heartland Conference semifinals match, No. 1 seed Demize NPSL plays host to No. 4 seed Arkansas Wolves on Wednesday. The Heartland Conference championship is scheduled for Saturday at the highest remaining seed.
