The No. 8-ranked RiverHawks of Northeastern State rolled to an 8-1 victory over Ouachita Baptist on Friday at DeLoache Field. Joe Garcia and Aaron Ugbah scored one minutes apart in the dominating win for NSU. Garcia scored for the fifth straight game in the 56th minute to make it 5-0 in favor of the RiverHawks. Ugbah netted his first goal of the season in the 57th minute with Garcia notching the assist for a 6-0 advantage. The RiverHawks were up 7-0 before the Tigers scored late in the game. NSU added a final tally in the 90th minute for the final 8-1 score. For the season so far, Garcia has six goals and four assists in only five games.
The RiverHawks (5-0) travel to Oklahoma Baptist on Tuesday (Sept. 18) then return home to begin MIAA play against rival Fort Hays State on Sunday (Sept. 22) in Tahlequah, Okla.
It was a tough week for the Tulsa Golden Hurricane as the team went 0-2 in two home contests.
Ryan Alpers, Joe Ruiz and Gustavo Vargas started and Adam Habib came on as a reserve in a 3-0 loss to Saint Louis on Tuesday at Hurricane Stadium. Ruiz totaled one shot in the setback to the Billikens.
To end the week for TU, the Golden Hurricane suffered a 2-1 overtime loss to Drake on Saturday at Hurricane Stadium. Ruiz and Vargas started in that game with Vargas tallying one shot. Alpers and Habib made appearances coming in as reserves. The Golden Hurricane tied the game via penalty at 1-1 in the 23rd minute, but TU lost, 2-1, on an overtime penalty kick goal by Drake in the 94th minute.
TU (3-3-1) starts American Athletic Conference action on Friday (Sept. 21) at SMU in Dallas, Texas.
Lubbock Christian opened Heartland Conference play by going unbeaten at 1-0-1. The Chaps started the week with a 2-0 victory over 2017 Heartland Conference West Division champion West Texas A&M on Thursday at the LCU Soccer Field with Jonathan Woods playing the full 90 minutes in the victory. LCU tied with Eastern New Mexico on Saturday to conclude the week. Woods started, but only played in 19 minutes against the Greyhounds in the 1-1 game.
The Chaps (3-1-1) travel to Dallas Baptist University and St. Edward’s this week to continue league action. Benedictine won 6-1 over Kansas Christian on Thursday with Lucca Rodrigues starting on defense in the dominating win. Rodrigues, who tallied a hat trick two weeks ago, did not make an appearance in Benedictine’s game on Sunday when the Ravens tied 1-1 with Columbia (Mo.).
The Ravens host Evangel on Wednesday (Sept. 19) to open Heart of America Athletic Conference action. Benedictine ends the week with No. 2-ranked Baker on Saturday (Sept. 22) at home for Family Weekend.
Siena went 1-1 the past week with its first win of the season over Sacred Heart on Saturday by a 2-1 score. Frank Cotroneo started on defense in a loss to Army West Point on Tuesday. Siena travels to Vermont on Tuesday (Sept. 18) for its next contest.
