Thomas Shannon Returns for 2019 Season

TULSA, Okla. – Thomas Shannon returns to Tulsa Athletic for the 2019 season as he became the 18th player announced to the 2019 roster.

 

“We are very excited to have Thomas back for the 2019 season,” GM of Tulsa Athletic Daniel DeVore said. “Thomas brings leadership and experience to the team, and he has won at every stop he has been. Thomas last played for us in 2016 when we won the South Central Conference. He will be a valuable member of the team, especially with his leadership, for the upcoming year.”

 

Shannon last played for Tulsa Athletic in the 2016 season when he helped the club win the South Central Conference. Shannon started in five contests late in the season, and he tallied two goals during the season. For the year, he played 376 minutes with the five appearances.

 

Shannon played collegiately at Memphis where he was a four-year starter and the team captain during his senior campaign. In his four seasons, Shannon made 56 starts with 10 goals and eight assists. As a senior, he played every minute possible, totaling 1,664 minutes and 18 starts. The defender tallied two goals and one assist in his senior season.

 

During his junior season, Shannon was the fourth-leading scorer on the team despite only playing nine matches due to injury. He finished with three goals and three assists in only nine contests. The defender went for a brace with two goals against North Florida in the UAB “Soccer for a Cure” Classic as he was named all-tournament.

 

Shannon went for three goals and two assists as a sophomore, ranking second on the team for goals and third for assists. He helped the Tigers post six shutouts during his sophomore campaign, including against conference opponents South Carolina and FIU.

 

The defender started his collegiate career with 17 starts for the Tigers. He scored two goals and tallied two assists to rank second on the team. Shannon was the only Tiger to appear in all 19 matches during his freshman season. He opened his Memphis career with a brace against Oral Roberts in the second contest of the season. He was named all-tournament at the Memphis Diadora Classic.

 

After his collegiate career, Shannon signed his first professional contract with Brisbane City FC in the National Premier League in Brisbane, Australia. He was named the captain, and he helped lead BCFC to a second play finish in the league. Shannon was transferred to the Dandenong Thunder in the Victorian Premier League to finish out the last 10 games of the season.

 

Shannon played indoor soccer for the Tulsa Revolution of the PASL where he was the only player to start all 16 matches. He finished with a team-high 16 assists and added six goals.

 

Shannon prepped at Broken Arrow High School where he was a four-year letterwinner. He was named the Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year along with being named all-conference, all-district and all-metro numerous times in his high school career. As a senior, Shannon registered 42 points and led the team in scoring.

 

Shannon played club soccer for the Tulsa Soccer Club, helping his TSC team to eight state championship titles and two Region III championships.

 

Tulsa Athletic open the 2019 season on May 5 when the club plays host to the Little Rock Rangers at home at Veterans Park. Start time is set for 2 p.m. with single game tickets available for as low as $5 for general admission.
