BALTIMORE – Tulsa Athletic scored in the 15th minute en route to a 1-0 win at FC Baltimore Christos to win in the NPSL semifinals and advance to the NPSL Championship Game for the first time in club history. The NPSL Championship is scheduled for next Saturday (Aug. 7) in Denton, Texas against Denton Diablos.
Romulo Bosqueiro scored the game-winning goal in the 15th minute to give Tulsa Athletic the 1-0 win. After a Joe Garcia free kick was saved by the Baltimore goalkeeper, Bosqueiro knocked in the rebound for the games-inning tally. The goal was Bosqueiro’s second of the season, and Garcia picked up the assist on the goal.
Tulsa Athletic controlled the rest of the first half. Jonathan Harris nearly doubled the lead with a header, but FC Baltimore’s goalkeeper made the save to keep it 1-0 midway through the half. Tulsa had a few other opportunities on goal in the first 45 minutes.
In the second half, Tulsa’s defense was up to the task, and goalkeeper Bryson Reed made some big saves as the green and yellow pulled out the victory.
Reed went the full 90 minutes in goal and earned the shutout victory, his fourth of the season.
Denton Diablos won the other NPSL semifinals game, 4-2, in overtime to advance to the championship game. As the three seed, they will host Tulsa Athletic, the four seed, on Saturday (Aug. 7) in Denton, Texas. This is the first-ever NPSL championship appearance for both clubs.
So far this postseason, Tulsa Athletic has captured the Heartland Conference Championship, South Region Championship and advanced to the NPSL Championship.
