EMPORIA, Kan. – Emporia FC scored in the first half on a penalty, but Tulsa Athletic tallied an equalizer goal in the second half to earn a 1-1 draw on Saturday (May 9) at Emporia Middle School.
Tulsa Athletic moved to 1-0-1 on the season with four points in the Mid-American Conference standings. Emporia FC is 0-1-1 on the year with one point in the conference.
After a foul in the box gave the home side a penalty in the 42nd minute, Emporia FC went up 1-0 after converting the penalty as Bryson Reed guessed the wrong way on the shot from the spot.
Emporia held the 1-0 lead at halftime.
The green and yellow settled in during the second half and jumped on Emporia FC early in the second 45 minutes with some opportunities.
Erick Diaz tallied the equalizer on a strike in the 65th minute, his first goal of the 2026 season.
Tulsa had some outstanding opportunities late in the match, but the visitors couldn’t find the game-winning goal as the contest ended in a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes.
Tulsa Athletic are back in action on May 24 against Emporia FC at 7 p.m. at Emporia Middle School in Emporia, Kansas.
