TULSA – Tulsa Athletic and Sunflower State played to a 0-0 draw in a match between the top two teams in the Heartland Conference standings on Saturday (June 4) night at Athletic Community Field at Hicks Park.

Tulsa moved to 5-0-2 on the season to continue their unbeaten streak to open the 2022 NPSL campaign. With 17 points, the green and yellow continue to lead the Heartland Conference. Sunflower State moved to 3-0-2 with 11 points and fell to third in the league standings based on other results from Saturday night in the Heartland.

The green and yellow had chances in the match as they hit the post three times and forced the Sunflower State goalkeeper to make eight saves.

Early in the second half, Joe Ruiz had a header that struck the crossbar to keep the match scoreless. Tulsa had numerous other opportunities that they couldn’t convert in the 90 minutes.

Damani Harris hit the post in the 83rd minute and the ball bounced right back in front where no one was there to take advantage for the green and yellow.

Late in the match, Rio Mello, Reed Berry and Abou Diallo all had chances as well, but none of them were converted for goals.

Bryson Reed returned after missing some time due to injury to earn the shutout in 90 minutes of action, his third shutout of the season. Reed made an early diving stop in the sixth minute of action to keep it 0-0 early in the match.

Tulsa Athletic is back at home on Wednesday (June 8) at 7 p.m. against OKC 1889 in another critical Heartland Conference contest. Tickets are $10 and a live video stream will be available as well.
