Tulsa Athletic Cruises to 4-0 Win, Clinches Playoff Spot

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Tulsa Athletic cruised to a 4-0 win over Arkansas Wolves on Saturday (June 24) and clinched a playoff spot in the Heartland Conference at Soldier Field on the campus of Rogers State University. 

Rio Mello, Abou Diallo, Ethan Gordan and Aaron Ugbah scored the four goals to lift Tulsa Athletic to the victory.

With the win, the green and yellow moved to 5-1-2 on the season with 17 points to stay on top of the Heartland Conference standings. OKC 1889 FC sits at 16 points with a 5-2-1 record.

The green and yellow took an early 1-0 edge when Ethan Gordon headed in a corner kick in the 22nd minute to put the home side in front.

A few minutes later, Tulsa Athletic earned a penalty as Luis Flores was taken down in the box. Rio Mello stepped up and converted on the penalty to give Tulsa a 2-0 advantage in the first half.

The green and yellow finished the first half with a 2-0 lead.

Abou Diallo increased the Tulsa advantage to 3-0 with his goal in the second half. Aaron Ugbah scored late for the 4-0 margin.

Bryson Reed started in goal and earned the shutout win, his second shutout of the season. Tulsa’s back three of Gordon, Joe Ruiz and Vitor Turnes helped in the shutout victory.

Tulsa Athletic moved to 4-0 at home this season with all four contest coming at RSU.
