Tulsa Athletic Defeats Denton, 3-1, at Hicks Park

TULSA – Tulsa Athletic overcame an early one-goal deficit to defeat Denton Diablos FC, 3-1, on Sunday (June 9) at Athletic Community Field at Hicks Park in the first home game of the summer friendly season for the green and yellow. 

 

The matchup was a rematch of the 2021 NPSL National Championship and featured two of the last three NPSL National Champions. 

 

The visiting side scored first in the 20th minute on a goal from Nick Arenare for a 1-0 score. 

 

The green and yellow scored two goals in 10 minutes to gain a 2-1 edge. Omar Mora scored the first Tulsa Athletic goal in the 25th minute to even the score at 1-1, and Thiago Patto knocked in a rebound in the 35th minute to give Tulsa the 2-1 lead. 

 

In the second half, Tulsa Athletic added a late insurance goal in the 86th minute for the 3-1 margin. Will Applegate tallied the late goal. 

 

Bryson Reed started in goal and went the first 60 minutes. Ryder Claborn finished out the contest and went the final 30 minutes. 

 

Tulsa Athletic is back in action on Wednesday (June 12) against in-state rival OKC 1889 FC at 6 p.m. at Athletic Community Field at Hicks Park. The green and yellow are also home this Saturday (June 15) against FC Dallas U23 at 6 p.m. Tickets are on sale now for both contests.
