WICHITA, Kan. – After falling behind 2-1 in the 84th minute, Tulsa Athletic quickly responded with a goal a minute later to earn a 2-2 draw at FC Wichita on Saturday (May 25) night at Stryker Sports Complex.

Tulsa Athletic (2-0-2) continue to rank first in the Heartland Conference standings with eight points after four weeks. FC Wichita (0-0-3) sits in third with three points as they opened the 2019 season with three straight draws, include twice to Tulsa Athletic.

Santiago Riveros evened the score at 2-2 in the 85th minute with his goal for the green and yellow as Tulsa Athletic pushed forward right after Wichita got the 2-1 edge.

FC Wichita gained a 2-1 advantage in the 84th minute when Thomas Wells scored on a header for his second goal of the contest. Wells tied the match at 1-1 early in the second half with his first goal as he came in at halftime as a substitute.

It was a frantic finish for both clubs in the final minutes with back-and-forth action. Tulsa Athletic had opportunities to gain the lead late but couldn’t convert those chances. FC Wichita had a chance cleared right off the goal line in extra time. In the final minutes, the contest opened up and created scoring opportunities for both teams.

Joe Garcia put Tulsa Athletic up 1-0 late in the first half when his shot found the right corner of the goal in the 35th minute. Tulsa Athletic went into halftime with the 1-0 advantage.

The match was played outside for the first 11 minutes at the renovated Stryker Stadium, but lightning in the area forced a delay and the contest was moved to Stryker’s indoor facility for the final 79 minutes of action. With the delay, the match restart at about 9 p.m.

Tulsa Athletic return home to play host to Club Atletico Saint Louis on Sunday, June 2 at 2 p.m. at Veterans Park. Live video streaming will be available.
