TULSA, Okla. – For the first time in four weeks, Tulsa Athletic return home to play host to Demize NPSL in the regular season home finale on Sunday (June 30) at 2 p.m. at Veterans Park.
Before the contest is the fourth annual Pull the Hook Derby between the Tulsa Fire Department and Oklahoma City Fire Department at 11 a.m. at Veterans Park. The charity game raises money for Hydrants of Hope. Tickets can be purchased HERE with 100 percent of the proceeds going to charity.
Tulsa Athletic (5-0-3) clinched the Heartland Conference regular season championship on Wednesday when Demize NPSL lost at Saint Louis Club Atletico and ended Demize’s chance to catch Tulsa Athletic in points in the standings. Tulsa Athletic has a seven-point lead in the standings with 18 points through eight matches with FC Wichita in second at 11 points. Little Rock Rangers and Demize NPSL are tied for third with 10 points.
The last contest for Tulsa Athletic came back on June 19 when the green and yellow defeated Ozark FC, 3-0, in Springdale, Arkansas. Tulsa tallied three first-half goals, including two by Joe Garcia to secure the victory. Billy Nzojyibwami scored the opening goal of the match for Tulsa.
For the season, Aboubakr Diallo leads the club in scoring with four goals. Garcia adds three goals, and Alex Harris has two goals. Bryson Reed allows less than one goal per game in goal, and he has two shutouts this season.
Demize NPSL currently ranks third in the conference standings with 10 points. The team is looking to clinch a playoff spot for the first time in history. Through eight contests, Demize are 2-2-4 in league action, including a 1-1 draw with Tulsa Athletic on June 15. On the road this season, Demize are 0-1-2. Gustavo Nascimento paces the team in scoring with three goals this season.
In the all-time series between the two teams, Tulsa Athletic hold a 7-1-2 advantage, including a 4-0 edge in Tulsa.
Tulsa Athletic clinched home field advantage in the Heartland Conference playoffs. Tulsa will host a Heartland semifinal match on July 10 at Veterans Park. The Heartland Conference championship is scheduled for July 13 at the highest remaining seed.
