TULSA – Tulsa Athletic used five second-half goals to roll to a 7-0 victory over Dallas City FC on Sunday (June 6) at Veterans Park to start a three-match homestand.
Forward Whitney Gonsalves finished with a brace as he scored the last two goals for the green and yellow. Five other Tulsa Athletic players totaled goals in the win: Joe Garcia, Joe Ruiz, Jamie Gilbert, Vinicius Oliveira and Noah Gonsalves.
Tulsa Athletic moved to 3-1-2 on the season and ranks second in the Heartland Conference with 11 points after six games. Dallas City FC fell to 0-3-0 on the season and they are searching for their first points of the 2021 campaign.
After a foul in the box on Munashe Raranje, Garcia put Tulsa Athletic up 1-0 early in the game with a penalty kick goal in the 17th minute.
Ruiz doubled the advantage to 2-0 in the 29th minute with a goal on a header off a free kick.
In the second half, the green and yellow poured on the goals. Gilbert got on the scoresheet with a goal in the 59th minute.
After the Gilbert goal, Dallas City was given a red card and played down a man for the final 30 minutes of action, That’s when Tulsa Athletic added four more goals in the final 30 minutes for the 7-0 score.
Oliveira increased the score to 4-0 with his goal in the 68th minute.
The Gonsalves brothers tallied the final three goals for the green and yellow. Noah Gonsalves upped the advantage to 5-0 with his goal in the 70th minute.
Whitney Gonsalves registered his first of two goals in the 77th minute on a breakaway tally. The forward added his second goal for the brace in the 85th minute on a shot that went top shelf for the 7-0 margin.
Brady Moody got his first start in goal this season and earned the shutout victory as he went the full 90 minutes.
Tulsa Athletic swept the season series with Dallas City FC after the green and yellow won 7-0 in McKinney, Texas on May 23.
Tulsa Athletic continues its three-game homestand with Arkansas Wolves next Sunday (June 13) at 2 p.m. at Veterans Park.
