Tulsa Athletic Scores 4 First-Half Goals in 5-1 Win at STL

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – Tulsa Athletic scored four first-half goals to cruise to a 5-1 victory over Club Atletico Saint Louis on Sunday (May 29) at Creve Coeur Park. 

Abou Diallo totaled two goals in the first half, Vinicius Oliveira tallied a goal and Joe Ruiz added the final goal in the first half for the 4-0 score after 45 minutes. Club Atletico Saint Louis got one goal in the second half, but Tulsa responded a minute later with a goal by Juan Sanchez for the final 5-1 margin. 

The green and yellow moved to 5-0-1 on the season with 16 points to lead the Heartland Conference. CASL dropped to 1-4-0 with three points. 

Tulsa Athletic went up early with a goal in the eighth minute by Diallo for a 1-0 edge. A cross by Aaron Ugbah into the box was knocked in by Diallo right in front of the goal for the early lead. 

It only took 12 minutes for the green and yellow to double the advantage to 2-0. Oliveira scored in the 20th minute, his first goal of the 2022 season for Tulsa Athletic, when he gained possession of a loose ball and fired it into the right corner of the goal. 

Ruiz increased the Tulsa Athletic lead to 3-0 in the 33rd minute when he scored on a header off a free kick. 

Diallo added his second goal in the 39th minute when he scored right in front of the goal after a ball in from Reed Berry for a 4-0 score. 

Tulsa Athletic held a 4-0 margin at halftime. 

The green and yellow had an opportunity to add another goal in the 52nd minute, but a penalty kick attempt hit the post to keep it 4-0 early in the second half. 

Club Atletico Saint Louis scored in the 76th minute for a 4-1 score. 

Juan Sanchez tallied the final goal for Tulsa in the 77th minute to make it 5-1. 

Brady Moody played the full 90 minutes in goal, making some big saves in the win. 

The green and yellow swept the season series with CASL with two victories. Tulsa won 2-1 earlier in the season at Athletic Community Field at Hicks Park. 

Tulsa Athletic hosts Sunflower State in a matchup of the top two teams in the conference on Saturday (June 4) at Athletic Community Field at Hicks Park. The match will be under the lights with a 7 p.m. start time. A live stream will be available.
