Lee’s Summit, Missouri – Gustavo Vargas scored the late game-winning goal to lift Tulsa Athletic to a 2-1 road win at Union KC on Sunday (June 8) at the Paragon Star Sports Complex.
With the win, Tulsa Athletic moved to second place in the Mid-America Conference standings with six points with a 2-0-2 record. Union KC fell to 0-0-3 with zero points in conference play.
Vargas tallied the game-winning goal in stoppage time for the 2-1 score.
David Palade opened the scoring for the green and yellow with an early goal in the 10th minute for a 1-0 advantage. Palade got room in the box and hit a strike that found the back of the goal for his club-leading fourth goal this season. He has scored in all four games this season.
Union KC evened the score right before the half after the ball was dislodged from Tulsa Athletic goalkeeper Bryson Reed and the home side knocked in the goal.
The score was 1-1 at halftime.
Reed went the full 90 minutes in goal and earned the victory.
The green and yellow ended a two-game road trip with two wins by the identical score of 2-1. Tulsa Athletic started with a 2-1 win at OKC 1889 FC last Saturday.
Tulsa Athletic now returns home for two home contests this week. The green and yellow play host to OKC 1889 FC on Wednesday (June 11) at 7:30 p.m. at Athletic Community Field at Hicks Park. The Tulsa Boys then host FC Wichita on Saturday (June 14) at 7:30 p.m.
