TULSA – Tulsa Athletic is set to host the inaugural American Champions Cup on Saturday (June 29) against Houston Regals at 7:30 p.m. at Athletic Community Field at Hicks Park.

“Every person at every level of the club is ready for this cup weekend,” Tulsa Athletic co-owner Sonny Dalesandro said. “We’ve overcome a ton of obstacles and adversity this year and have still managed to remain extremely focused. Houston Regals are a great team, and we’re expecting our toughest foe of the summer. Hoisting a trophy would be the perfect embodiment of our club’s attitude and perseverance through difficult times. That’s 100 percent the goal this Saturday.”

The pregame party starts at 6 p.m. with $2 beers and $5 burgers until the game starts. Tickets for the championship are available online here

The American Champions Cup matches up the 2023 NPSL National Champion Tulsa Athletic against the 2024 USSSA National Champion Houston Regals in a cup to determine the best club in amateur soccer.

Tulsa Athletic is currently unbeaten in their 2024 summer schedule with wins over Denton Diablos, Oklahoma City 1889 FC and Little Rock Rangers. The green and yellow defeated Little Rock Rangers on Saturday, June 22 by the score of 5-0.

The game is a matchup between two longtime rivals. Tulsa Athletic and Houston Regals first played in 2011 when the two sides were entrants in the USASA Region 3 Amatuer Cup. A competition that earned Houston Regals a spot in the 2011 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. The two clubs faced off in the South Central Conference in the NPSL for three seasons in 2013, 2015 and 2016 before the conference split into the Heartland Conference and Lone Star Conference in 2017. Houston Regals last played in the NPSL in the 2018 season.
