Tulsa Athletic and FC Tulsa are set to meet in the U.S. Open Cup for the third time and the second time at Athletic Community Field at Hicks Park. In the Second Round of the 2023 U.S. Open Cup, Tulsa Athletic won, 1-0, at Hicks Park on a goal from KB Harris in the second half. The first meeting in the U.S. Open Cup was in 2022 when FC Tulsa earned a 2-1 win at ONEOK Field in the Second Round of the tournament.

The 2025 U.S. Open Cup starts with 32 first-round contests of exclusively amateur vs. pro sides. The 2025 field of 96 teams include 32 amateur teams and 64 professional teams with 14 teams from USL League One, 10 from MLS NEXT Pro, 24 from USL Championship and 16 from MLS.

The 2025 U.S. Open Cup appearance will mark the seventh time the club has played in the tournament and the eighth time Tulsa Athletic has been selected to participate. Tulsa Athletic made the 2020 U.S. Open Cup, however, the event was canceled. Tulsa Athletic earned their first-ever win in the 2022 U.S. Open Cup, defeating Azteca (Colo.) FC, 3-0, in Tulsa on March 23, 2022. In the 2023 U.S. Open Cup, Tulsa Athletic defeated Brazos Valley, 1-0, in the First Round and won 1-0 against FC Tulsa in the Second Round to set up a third-round matchup with MLS side Sporting Kansas City. The green and yellow were the furthest advancing amateur side in the 2023 tournament. Tulsa Athletic made their first appearance in the U.S. Open Cup in 2014.

Tulsa Athletic earned a bid to the 2025 U.S. Open with three wins in U.S. Open Cup Qualifying in the fall of 2024. After a first round bye, the green and yellow defeated FC Bartlesville Buffaloes and Woodland FC at Hicks Park. In the final round of qualifying, Tulsa Athletic traveled to Chicago House AC and won on penalties to advance to the U.S. Open Cup field.
