Tulsa Athletic can clinch a home playoff match with a win on Saturday.
On Wednesday, the green and yellow won by an impressive margin of 4-0 over the 2021 Heartland Conference regular season champions Demize NPSL at Athletic Community Field at Hicks Park. Abou Diallo finished with a brace with two goals. Juan Moreno and Ruben Carrasco each added goals in the dominating victory. Bryson Reed picked up the shutout win in goal.
For the season, Diallo paces the club with six goals on the season. Reed Berry adds five goals for second on the team. Moreno has two goals. Bryson Reed and Brady Moody have combined for four shutouts in goal this season with a .67 goals against average.
The green and yellow currently lead the Heartland Conference standings with 20 points and a 6-1-2 record. OKC 1889 FC has 16 points and a 5-1-1 record after only seven matches. Sunflower State ranks third in the conference with 15 points and a 4-2-3 mark. Demize and Club Atletico Saint Louis are tied for fourth in the league with 12 points. Arkansas Wolves and Reign FK rank sixth and seventh in the conference.
After allowing only six goals in their first seven matches of the year, including not conceding more than one goal in any contest, Sunflower State allowed six goals last weekend, going 1-1 against OKC 1889 and Club Atletico Saint Louis. In their most recent contest, Sunflower State outlasted CASL in a thrilling 5-4 win with Tim Smith finishing with a hat trick with three goals. Sunflower traveled to OKC 1889 and fell 2-0 in their other match last week. Sunflower State is 3-0-1 this season at home. Smith leads the team with four goals this season.
Saturday’s match is the second all-time meeting between the two clubs. Tulsa and Sunflower State played to a 0-0 draw at Hicks Park earlier this season.
Tulsa Athletic returns home for the final two contests of the regular season. The green and yellow play host to OKC 1889 FC on Wednesday, July 6 at 7 p.m. at Athletic Community Field at Hicks Park, The regular season ends with Reign FK coming to Hicks Park on Saturday, July 9 at 7 p.m. A live stream will be available for both home matches.
