CLAREMORE – Tulsa Athletic scored two first-half goals en route to a 2-0 win over Reign FK on Saturday (May 20) at Soldier Field on the campus of Rogers State University.
Tulsa Athletic finished 2-0 in their two-match homestand at RSU with a win tonight after defeating Demize NPSL on Thursday. The green and yellow are 3-0 early in their 10-match NPSL regular season schedule.
Giovanni Herrera tallied the game-winning goal in the 18th minute, his first goal in the green and yellow, to put the home side up 1-0. Aaron Ugbah had the assist on the early goal.
Mitchell Cashion created the second goal for the green and yellow with Abou Diallo hitting the strike for the goal to increase the edge to 2-0 in the 31st minute. The goal was Diallo’s club-leading fifth in the NPSL season in only three contests.
It looked like Diallo almost had a goal earlier in the first half after he knocked in a shot that hit the crossbar from Cashion, but Diallo was called offside on the play in the 13th minute,
After two goals in the first half, Tulsa Athletic cruised to the 2-0 victory.
In his first start for Tulsa Athletic, goalkeeper Alex Lopex earned the shutout win. His defense of Francisco Lopez Alejandro Chavez, Vitor Turnes and Cashion helped keep the Reign from mounting many chances. The shutout was the first of the season for Tulsa Athletic in NPSL play.
With the win, Tulsa Athletic moved to 3-0 with nine points in the Heartland Conference to rank first in the standings.
Tulsa Athletic is back in action on Wednesday (May 24) at OKC 1889 FC at OCU Stadium in Oklahoma City. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
