TULSA – Tulsa Athletic earned a 2-0 victory over FC Wichita on Wednesday (July 2) at Athletic Community Field at Hicks Park to capture the 2025 Mid-American Conference Regular Season Championship.
Ruben Torres, who was named the Man of the Match, scored early in the opening few minutes, and Rafa Zaldivar added a goal late for the dominating 2-0 victory over rival FC Wichita.
With the victory, Tulsa Athletic will host the Mid-American Conference Championship on Saturday, July 12 at 7:30 p.m. at Athletic Community Field at Hicks Park against second place Oklahoma City 1889 FC.
Tulsa Athletic finished the regular season with a 6-1-3 record with 19 points. OKC 1889 FC placed second with 15 points and a 5-0-5 record. FC Wichita missed a spot in the playoffs by one point at 14 points with a 4-2-3 record.
Torres scored the goal in the seventh minute. Wichita goalkeeper’s punt went right to Torres and he hit a strike from about 40 yards into the wide open goal for the 1-0 advantage early in the contest. The goal was Torres’s first goal of the season.
Zaldivar doubled the score to 2-0 in the 80th minute. Torres set up the goal with his pass over to Zaldivar on the right side of the box, and he slotted in the goal.
Bryson Reed earned the shutout win in goal as he made some big saves to keep the visitors scoreless. The shutout was the fourth straight shutout at home this season and fourth straight home win for Reed and Tulsa Athletic.
