BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – Tulsa Athletic scored two goals in the final 15 minutes of regulation to defeat Reign FK, 2-0, on Saturday (May 8) at OKWU Soccer Field. With the win, Tulsa Athletic moved to 1-0-1 on the season with four points in the Heartland Conference standings, sitting at the top of the table along with OKC 1889.

Joe Garcia finished with the brace for the green and yellow as he tallied both of the goals in a five minute span. Garcia, who leads the club with three goals after two games, put in the game-winning goal in the 75th minute of action for 1-0 Tulsa Athletic advantage. He doubled the score to 2-0 in the 80th minute with his second goal of the contest.

Bryson Reed picked up the shutout win in goal. A late save on a penalty kick from Reign FK kept the clean sheet as the shutout is the first of the season for Reed.

Tulsa Athletic controlled the contest throughout the 90 minutes and it seemed like it was just a matter of time before the squad would break through with a goal. With a deep roster, the green and yellow wore down Reign FK, and visiting Tulsa finally got on the scoreboard late for the road victory.

In the Heartland Conference standings, Tulsa Athletic and OKC 1889 rank first with four points after two games. Arkansas Wolves and Reign FK have one point each. Dallas City and Demize NPSL start the season this weekend.

Tulsa Athletic is currently on a 12-match unbeaten streak in the Heartland Conference regular season dating back to the 2019 season. Including Heartland Conference playoff action, Tulsa Athletic has a 14-match unbeaten streak.

Tulsa Athletic return home for their 2021 home opener on May 16 at 2 p.m. at Veterans Park. A live stream will be available for the contest.
