Two Late Goals Propel Tulsa Athletic to 3-1 Win over Club Atletico Saint Louis

TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa Athletic tallied two late goals to earn a 3-1 victory over Club Atletico Saint Louis on Sunday (June 2) at Case Soccer Complex at Oral Roberts University.

 

With the win, Tulsa Athletic stayed unbeaten this season with a 3-0-2 record in NPSL Heartland Conference action. Tulsa Athletic lead the Heartland Conference with 11 points through five contests and hold a five-point edge on second place Little Rock Rangers.

 

Billy Nzojyibwami scored the game-winning goal, his first tally of the season, in the 87th minute when he tapped in Joe Garcia’s pass to the back post to put Tulsa Athletic up 2-1.

 

Adam Habib added an insurance goal in the 90th minute with a penalty kick goal. Habib was fouled in the box to earn the penalty kick, and he calmly struck the PK low and just inside the right post for the goal and the 3-1 Tulsa Athletic advantage.

 

Aboubakr Diallo opened the scoring in the contest for Tulsa Athletic with his goal in the 23rd minute of the first half, his club-leading fourth of the season. Tulsa Athletic held a 1-0 edge after the first 45 minutes, and the club had numerous opportunities to add more in the first half.  

 

Club Atletico Saint Louis tied the score at 1-1 in the 57th minute when Alsadiq Hasan posted the goal for the visiting Bluebirds.

 

The contest was moved to ORU’s Case Soccer Complex due to unplayable field conditions at Veterans Park. Tulsa moved to 3-0-1 this season in matches played at home after four of their first five contests of the 2019 season were played in Tulsa. All three of the wins were by the identical score of 3-1.

 

Tulsa Athletic moved to 2-1 against Club Atletico Saint Louis all-time in Heartland Conference action. Tulsa Athletic are a perfect 2-0 at home in NPSL play against Club Atletico Saint Louis.  

 

Tulsa Athletic go on the road for three-straight matches. The stretch starts with a key contest at 2018 Heartland Conference champion Little Rock Rangers on June 8 at 7 p.m. at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock, Arkansas. The green and yellow then go to Demize NPSL and Ozark FC to end the road trip.
