CLAREMORE, Okla. – Aaron Ugbah scored in the 90th minute, lifting Tulsa Athletic to a 2-1 win over OKC 1889 FC and propelling the green and yellow into first place in the Heartland Conference on Saturday night (June 17) at Soldier Field on the campus of Rogers State University.
With the win, Tulsa Athletic moved to 4-1-2 with 14 points in the Heartland Conference. OKC dropped to 4-2-1 with 13 points.
Ugbah tallied the game-winning goal seconds into five minutes of stoppage time as goalkeeper Bryson Reed played a perfect punt out to Ugbah. Ugbah took a few touches before he hit a strike from the right side of the box to put Tulsa Athletic up 2-1 late in the contest.
After a scoreless first half, OKC 1889 FC took a 1-0 edge early in the second half in the 48th minute.
Luis Flores opened his account with Tulsa Athletic, evening the score at 1-1 in the 72nd minute. Ugbah served a ball to Flores in the box and Flores hit a shot over the top of the OKC goalkeeper to put the score at 1-1.
In the 84th minute, OKC 1889 was given a penalty after a handball in the box. Goalkeeper Bryson Reed made a diving save on the penalty to keep the score even at 1-1 late in the contest.
Reed finished as the Man of the Match with the penalty save to go with his assist on the match-winning goal. Ugbah finished with a goal and an assist in only 22 minutes off the bench.
